Happy Christmas!!!

Date: 11th Dec 2020 @ 4:12pm

With just one more week to go until we finish for Christmas I would be lying to say we aren’t all ready for the 2 week break!!! What with all the additional setting up and packing away associated with our numerous bubbles as well as having to work with a skeleton staff it has, at times, been a challenge but, at the same time, we are thrilled that we have been able to continue to offer a fun and varied breakfast and after school club to all.

Since half term we have explored a number of special days including ...

Dia de los Muertos...

Bonfire Night...

Crazy Hair Day for Children in Need...

and Remembrance Day...

...which have involved a number of crafts such as sugar skull masks, bonfire cakes, burning houses of parliament (which staff found highly amusing given the current circumstances!), Pudsey Bears and poppy crafts galore.  Children were also extremely thrilled to discover a whole bag of Harry Potter crafts left over from holiday club – needless to say, the content of the bags didn’t last very long.

We spent a week in November learning about Diwali which is always a firm favourite with children due to the number of gems and sparkles we go through whilst decorating Diwali cards and night lights.

The end of November gave us all an opportunity to look back and think of reasons to thankful this year as we touched on the American tradition of thanksgiving.  Children were given the opportunity to write what they were thankful for on a leaf and add it to our club tree.  After much discussion, children were thankful for a number of varied things ranging from family, food and friendship to football, chocolate, youtube and Black Friday!!

Despite the dark evenings, children have continued to enjoy their time outside so, rather than deny them the fresh air, we have invested in numerous torches and reflective bands to ensure everyone is safe and accounted for whilst outside.  We have drawn the line at supplying wellies and umbrellas for the rainy days, but it is a delight to see how much fun the children have been having and can assure you that they are properly supervised at all times.

December seems to be whizzing by, but we have still managed to achieve such a lot. We started the month by making advent calendars including a very special club advent tree full of treats for kind and thoughtful behaviour.  It has been such a success that we have had to restock our Haribo supplies on more than one occasion!!

Children have also made cards, angels, seasonal window art, sparkly fir cone decorations, cupcakes and reindeer masks.

We are all thoroughly looking forward to our party night next Wednesday and aim to create a party atmosphere despite the restrictions we face due to our ‘bubbles’.  Lots of quizzes, games and activities have been planned and children will almost certainly enjoy a variety of snacks and nibbles so what’s not to like … it promises to be a fun evening for all!!

Seedlings are hosting a ‘Snowman’ breakfast on the last day of term as a treat for our little ones then we will be running an extended after school club from 1.30pm to 6.00pm to fit in with the early staggered finishing times in school. When we return in January, we will be diving straight into lots of new year crafts and resolutions but, in the meantime, it only remains for us all here at S4YC to wish you a very Happy Christmas and lots of health and happiness for the coming year.
