30th January - 3rd February 2017

Date: 2nd Feb 2017 @ 8:56pm

We have had a lovely time celebrating Chinese New Year this week in S4YC and have created a number of arts and crafts in keeping with the theme.

We started the week by making rooster inspired cards before making Chinese lanterns out of paper cups, tissue paper, beads and bells.  Some children decided to take the activity one step further and made 'Chinese Lantern Musical Shakers'  by putting the beads and bells inside the cup as opposed to hanging them from it.

On Wednesday we had great fun making Chinese hats. Even our Wednesday morning parent and toddler group enjoyed this activity showing great curiosity as they watched the ribbons being curled with scissors.

We finished the week by making lion puppets and traditional paper lanterns.

It has been lovely to see and track the progress of some of our younger children through our EYFS floor books.  One of the notable areas of development has been in the children's willingness to write, either individually or in group role play situations.

Even though they are a work in progress, we will be displaying the floorbooks in club within the next few weeks and  inviting you to come and have a look for yourselves.

After last week's success, the infants decided to have breakfast in the preschool room again this Friday and should be congratulated with their outstanding behaviour and the respect they are repeatedly showing for each other and the resources.  Keep it up infants!!

The juniors continue to spend much of their time in club playing outside, joining in with indoor sports and exploring numerous educational programmes on the computers.  Since the arrival or a number of musical instruments in club, children have also enjoyed making even more noise than usual much to the dismay of the junior staff!!!
