School's Out for Summer
Date: 19th Jul 2024 @ 7:51pm
The end of the school year is almost here, and I am thrilled to say that we are all still standing!! This time last year I had no idea what the year ahead would have in store, but I can honestly say that my first full year at Whitby Heath couldn’t have gone any better and I owe that to the fantastic welcome I have received from children, staff and parents. Change can be unnerving, so it is reassuring to know that Whitby Heath children are so adaptable. We look forward to what next year has to offer when we will be hitting the ground running.
Since May, we haven’t been terribly lucky with the weather, but that hasn’t stopped us enjoying ourselves in breakfast and out of school club, dodging the rain where possible. On the ‘damper’ days, we enjoyed activities such as board games, painting, mask making, crafting with beads and model making…
… but as soon as the sun shone through, we made the most of the dry spells by heading outdoors, taking most of our indoor toys with us, as well as playing with scooters, bubbles and kites (and yes, I have spent many a night untangling string!!) Unfortunately, we have been slightly limited this term when it comes to ball games (due to our apparent inability to kick a ball without breaking something) but we have come to love our flyaway balls (even if most of them are currently on the roof!)
As the school year comes to an end and we navigate club around summer fairs, discos and the year 6 production (thank you preschool for your hospitality!) there is a lot of excitement in the air as children look forward to the holidays. There is also, however, an undeniable hint of sadness at the thought of our year 6 children going on to pastures new. Having spent the evening admiring all our year 6 children looking glam for their prom night, it goes without saying that we wish all our school leavers the best of luck at their new schools in September. Thank you for allowing us to be a part of your primary school journey.
For the rest of you, have a very happy and healthy summer holiday and we look forward to welcoming you back in September.
