Countdown to Summer

Date: 14th Jun 2019 @ 6:21am

Well, this last 2 weeks hasn’t exactly brought with it the weather that we were hoping for but we haven’t let the rain dampen our spirits.  We were planning on plenty of outdoor sunshine to help us transition from two separate clubs into one but instead the children have all been thrown in at the deep end and have had no choice but to play side by side and it has to be said – the children have done us proud!! Despite it being undeniably busy and, to the outsider, club may look like nothing more than organised chaos, but everyone has adapted well and there have been many benefits with the children merging in one hall.  Not only do we feel reunited as one team but the preschool and reception children have had the added benefit of being able to access the Seedlings room once again...

...our resources and staff in the one room have doubled giving children a broader choice of things to do...

... the PS2 has come out of storage, we have been able to provide the children with ‘messier’ adult led craft activities such as painting, junk art, cake decorating, kinetic sand, play dough and clay...

... and we have had a spare hall over the road in which to run our football, dance and gymnastics sessions (which has been a Godsend given the weather conditions).  All in all, a great success!!

We started the half term exploring an environmental theme including the ocean and all its sea life.  Children created window art followed by ocean scenes created from a variety of different materials, seashell inspired bracelets and ‘fish on a stick’.

This week we started by taking a look at our Royal Family following the weekends Trooping of the Colour by making crowns fit for a Queen (or King as the case may be) with some children finding it necessary to make a crown for every day of the week!! We followed this with a number of Father’s Day crafts including cards, ties, bookmarks and certificates.

Our sports courses continue to be successful with football taking the lead once again where popularity is concerned.  This half term saw the introduction of the ‘Evolution Dance’ team to the infants and has been well received by all who have taken part so far.  Gymnastics could do with a few more participants but has been enjoyable none-the-less.

Wednesday mornings continue to be a hive of activity with parent and toddler numbers being on the increase once again after losing the majority of our children when they reached school age.  Please spread the word if you know of anyone that would be interested in joining us – it is as much a group for the adults as it is the children with the children’s craft table fast becoming the ‘adult art therapy table!!’

It may seem quite far off but, even though we have just had an extremely successful Superheroes themed half term holiday club, the Summer holidays are just around the corner.  Our weekly themes this year are loosely based around a number of traditional tales including ‘Beauty and the Beast’, ‘Peter Pan’, ‘Aladdin’, ‘The Little Mermaid’, ‘Mary Poppins’ and ‘Alice in Wonderland’.  If you book your child’s places before 17th June you will get 25% off so check your diaries now so as not to miss out on this offer.
