Woodlands Holiday Club 2017

Date: 7th Sep 2017 @ 6:56am

Once again we have come to the end of what can only be described as a very well attended and enjoyable Summer Holiday Club (despite the questionable weather!!)  We were happy at Woodlands to welcome our friends from Whitby Heath, Christ Church and Sutton Green as well as welcoming some children from schools further afield.  It was nice to see some new faces and it is a credit to our regular children how well they embraced the new children and created a number of new friendships.

Due to the poor weather it was sometimes necessary to take some of our younger children into the seedlings room where they had a number of age appropriate resources and a beautiful undercover outdoor area to explore.  Older children were lucky to have the ICT suite to fall back on when it was raining as well.

When we weren't playing outside on our scooters (which seem to multiply as the years pass by) we enjoyed a number of free play activities inside or took part in some adult led art and craft activities.

This year's arts and craft were based on a number of current children's films which seemed to go down extremely well with everyone.  The use of the internet and a big screen in the hall came in extremely well as we accompanied each of our themes with a singalong sound track (possibly more for the staff than the children!)

Our first film of the holiday was Moana which went down extremely well with children making a number of Hawiian and ocean based crafts including Hawiian Lei, headdresses, Moana masks, bookmarks and cupcakes...

Next we explored Zootropolis/Zootopia and created giant donuts, character masks, kites, sheriff badges and window art ...

Finding Dory was one of our more colourful weeks with our favourite activity being creating giant artworks from the film as well as making flip-flap fish, Dory hats, masks and aquariums...

Trolls involved numerous viewings of the film whilst creating fluorescent head dresses, felt flower bracelets, pencil toppers, windmills and candy floss cupcakes...

Life of Pets also had many viewings as we made puppets, pom pom poodles, masks, window art, charm bracelets, bookmarks and colouring booklets.

Finally we explored Lego Batman by printing cards with lego, making lego character heads, woolly glow bracelets, masks and figures  ...

It is hard to believe the summer has gone so fast yet we have achieved so much and made so many new friendships.  Let's hope October half term is just as popular.
