23rd - 27th January 2017

Date: 27th Jan 2017 @ 6:03am

After what has been a particularly cold and wintry week it is hard to believe we have almost reached the end of January.  Even though it has been a relatively short month due to the Christmas Holiday, both infants and juniors have achieved a lot to be proud of over the last few weeks.

The infants started the week by making some beautiful winter angels. Some children chose to steer away from what may be considered a conservative wintery colour scheme by giving their angels pink hair, a yellow face and a black dress but the finished angels were something to be celebrated.

Due to it being so cold, many children opted to spend some time in the computer room where the temperature was a little more agreeable than it was outside.  The daylight hours are getting noticeably longer so we look forward to making up for lost time and being able to spend more time outside as the weeks go on.

Our superhero capes continue to be a big hit with the children with new additions being added each week.  This week saw the introduction Spidergirl and Batgirl (although these were enjoyed by both the girls and boys alike!)

The juniors started their week by making some pictures using shaving foam.  Having created some fantastic works of art some children went on to make 'ice cream sundaes'.

Needless to say some children took the activity more serious than others...

On Tuesday the infants made 'Ice-cream skiiers' using icecream sticks as the skis whilst the more adventurous children wrapped up warm for some outdoor play with 2 of our Whitby High School helpers.  We have been extremely lucky this year to have some of our ex-S4YC members want to come back and help as part of their Duke of Edinburough Award..

On Wednesday we spent much of our time in our preschool room so took the opportunity to use the outside troughs to make some magic snow.  I am glad to say this batch of snow didn't make it's way indoors unlike the last time!!   Sadly our outdoor area isn't looking its best at the moment, especially after the recent spell of wet and windy weather, but we look forward to doing a spot of gardening as soon as the weather gets a bit warmer.

Despite being extremely busy and slightly limited due to school commitments in the infant hall, we were able to make malting snowman biscuits on Thursday.  Infant children decorated paper bags whilst they waited their turn to construct a snowman using biscuits, marshmallows and melted white chocolate.  The activity went down a treat with all finished biscuits lasting just long enough to be shown to parents before being consumed between the hall and reception doorways!!

The juniors also enjoyed making biscuits but these didn't last quite so long on the junior side!!

After a very successful breakfast club in the preschool room on Friday morning we anticipate being in there for breakfast for the next 2 Friday's allowing school to set up the hall ready for parent assemblies.  This week the children enjoyed breakfast whilst watching Tarzan on the big screen before enjoying some arts and crafts and a game of pool before school.

Football and gymnastics continues to grow in popularity with new children joining us each week. We are very proud to say that not 1 but 2 of our after school club children went home with a golden boot this week.  Don't forget that football is outdoors so please make sure your children bring outdoor clothes with them.

With February half term just around the corner don't forget to download and complete the booking form to secure your child's place.
